Future Promises Delivered

Future Promises Job Fair, one of Machias Savings Bank’s signature youth-oriented initiatives, had 21 schools, in Washington and Hancock Counties, busing in over 1,000 grade-schoolers this past April. Last week, 20 of them were awarded a $250 scholarship to be put towards college, or even starting their own business one day.

MSB and MMHS Partner for Workforce Development through Personalized Education

Gage Garrison is enjoying high school, maybe for the first time in a long time. A junior enrolled in Machias Memorial High School's new Alternative Education Program, Gage is literally getting off the bus in the morning at Mid-Town Auto in Machias to start his school day.  He is learning a mechanics trade while completing his high school education.  Thanks to a recent $30,000 contribution from Machias Savings Bank, next fall Gage and his classmates will have a new classroom for their program on the MMHS campus and capacity for others students to participate.

If you visit the Maine Veterans' Home in Machias, you're apt to see Donna Hawkins, MSB's Telecommunication Coordinator, joining a resident for a walk or helping out during a game of BINGO.  Donna has been a special face and companion to the veterans in Machias for the past two years- making visits twice a week and during special events.  Serving at the Home brings relevancy to her life. Both of Donna's children and her son-in-law are veterans of foreign wars and continue to serve their country today.  Also, her husband was a soldier in the Maine Army National Guard.

Future Promises Looking Bright

Over 1,000 third through sixth graders from 21 schools in Washington and Hancock Counties descended upon the Washington Academy Gardner gymnasium on Friday, April 7th to attend the Machias Savings Bank Future Promises Job Fair.  The students excitedly engaged in hands-on activities with representatives from over 30 area occupations and businesses.

From the moment you step inside the office of Brewer Dental Specialty, you know one thing for sure-Dr. Carey Fister is all about kids and all about promoting dental hygiene.  Maybe it’s the bright yellow walls and Disney décor that give away her driving passion.  Or perhaps it’s the way she’s renamed all her dental instruments as Mr. Thirsty, Mr. Bumpy Bumpy, and Mr. Squiggly to entertain and calm young patients.  Whatever clues you pick up, from the toy box to the TVs mounted above each dentist’s chair, it’s all about kids.

On Stage with Junior Achievement

Gaven, Brookelyn, Tia and Ethan, sixth grade students from Rose M. Gaffney Elementary school in Machias, Maine, took the stage with poise and confidence at Junior Achievement's recent Hall of Fame North Banquet hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor.  Led by their financial literacy volunteer, Melissa Moffett, and standing before a crowd of over 350 people, they each held signs representing a topic they were exposed to and became passionate about through lessons taught by Machias Savings Bank.
